The Beginning of the Quest

What is this crazy thing called life? What do I do with it? How do I make sense of it?

These are questions I am always asking myself nearly every minute of every day.

I’m technically a work-at-home mom, but the working part is minimal. I think of myself more as a stay-at-home mom who works–a little. I write, I edit, I keep house, and I chase around a four-year-old. Guess which of these activities I do the most.

But I don’t want it to be that way. I love my son beyond everything, but I am simply not cut out to be a stay-at-home mom. At the same time, I want to be present for him. So how do I combine my work ambitions and my little boy?

In this blog, I want to search for the answers to this question. I want to resolve it for myself and for other women like me. I’m convinced that there is a place for us mothers who stay at home for their children’s sake but don’t love it. We may like homemaking, we may like cooking and cleaning, we may like playing with our children. Or we may not. But what we have in common is that we want something more.

Can we have both worlds? Can we be happy giving our children their mommy while also giving their mommy herself? I don’t know, but I mean to find out. Come along with me on my quest and learn how you too can make sense of your life.

  1. Yes! Thank you so much for inviting me to your blog – “Can we be happy giving our children their mommy while also giving their mommy herself?” – I struggle with that balance too. I’m off to comment on your other posts now… 🙂
